So I decided rather than to just go over a bunch of tools and tell explain what they can do I decided to start making a model and then from there just explain what I was doing as I did it.

This is part one of several. After creating the model using textures from www.cgtextures.com I'll apply the textures and using the "UVW Map" modifier I'll scale them without actually doing any UVW Unwrap.

Some shortcuts to make things easier:
Ctrl + R to get the rotate view port.
In the top right corner of the view port you can also click the little house icon to reset the view port to default perspective view, or the cube.

T - Top view
B - Bottom view
L - Left view
P - Perspective (because rotating out of one of the above 3 gives you orthographic which is horrible.
Click and Hold Middle Mouse - button to pan view
Scrolling - zoom,Hold ctrl to zoom more at a time

Under Editable Poly, number keys cycle through the modes
1- Vertex
2- Edges
3- Borders
4- Polys
5- Element (a poly you select and any other poly attached to it).

F2 Toggles the Outline/Shaded of Selected Polys
F3 toggles wireframe
F4 Edged Faces (shows wireframe over the top of the object, but not in render)
